Day 30 Critical Thinking (Presentation Deconstruction)

The Class will begin with a review of the concept of critical thinking. The class will be led to discover that what someone is telling us is always dictated by the why someone is telling us their viewpoints. The whiteboard will be split into two sections and the class will be asked to restate the main points of both the presentations of last week, that of Mr Nikaforik and the dangers of tar sands developments, and the Bruce Power nuclear power plant feasibility study. After, a discussion will take place on what each of the presenter's agendas may be, and what was the motivation behind each presentation.

As a class, it was decided that we agreed more with Mr. Nikaforik, and believed that a nuclear power station on the North Saskatchewan River is not environmentally feasible. We decided to take action as a class and to write an open letter to Bruce Power, c.c. Government and Media outlets.

Open Letter to Bruce Power

Attention: CEO and Board of Directors, Bruce Power.

After attending your presentation at the Don Ross Centre in North Battleford on Friday, March 20th, 2009, we the Adult Education class of Moosomin First Nation, as a whole, believe the creation of a nuclear power plant in our province would negatively effect our environment. We have concerns about water pollution and the survival of fish species, which we still depend on to maintain our traditional way of life. Your presentation failed to reassure us that you can properly dispose of radioactive waste materials. Looking at the environmental factors, we believe a nuclear power station is not feasible on the Saskatchewan Rivers.

Yours in hope of a cleaner tomorrow,
Adult Education Class,
Moosomin First Nation
