Critical Thinking Assignment
Students will be given a copy of today's letters to the editor from the Star Phoenix, Friday, March 27. 2009. They will read the letters to the editor and then pick a letter in which they would like to do a critical thinking assignment. The students will go into groups according to their letter choice and discuss the following questions. One member of the group will act as a recorder and another member will act as the reporter. Discussion on each topic will be encouraged.

Discussion Questions
- Pick at least 3 terms from your letter and define them.
- What opinions did you hold before reading the letter? Did they change? Why or Why not?
- What does the author want to say? What are his/her sources?
- What ‘hot spots’ do you identify? How can you talk about these issues without angering people?
- List an example of how there was a conflict of points of view within your group. How did you resolve the conflict?
