Day 67 Numeracy (Inequalities on the Number Line_

Inequalities on the Number Line

Students will be given several inequalities to plot on a number line.

The first number line represents the inequality x > 2. You can see that there is an open circle on the 2, representing that x cannot equal 2.


The second number line shows the inequality x ≥ 2. You can see that there is a closed circle on the 2, representing that x can equal 2.
Two inequalities can be put on the same number line. Here is a plot of: x ≤ 4, x ≥ 8.

Here is a plot of the inequality -2 < x < 2


Students will use this information to complete the questions on page 69 of Mathematics Concepts: Student Workbook, and a page of inequalities produced by the instructor.
