Day 18 Communication (Introductory Paragraph)

Students will use their outlines from the previous day to write introductory paragraphs. The instructor will model one for the class to follow.

The RCMP have a serious public relations problem in Canada today. There have been several instances recently that have led a majority of Canadians to doubt that the RCMP is acting in their interests. The most public of these is the Ocotber 2007 incident where Vancouver RCMP tazered a Polish immigrant in the Vancouver Airport, who later died in police custody. Secondly, in Saskatchewan in the northern town of Beauval a 19 year old youth froze to death after he escaped from police custody. The RCMP officer in charge went off duty and didn't report the incident until the next day, leaving the man to the elements. Finally, in February of 2009 two people went missing in British Columbia, and no search was done until nine days after they dissapeared. The couple left numerous SOS messages that were ignored. One of the two died of exposure.
