Watching the News for Discussion and Reporting
The class will watch the latest broadcast of the CBC National News for discussion. Several news items will be quickly reviewed and three or four topics will be separated for group activity. The class will then be divided into groups and assigned one of the news items. The students in their groups will briefly discuss the news item and then record a summary of events. The students will also discuss and record how the news item affects them and their community. Each group will select a spokesperson who will deliver the report to the rest of the class.
