Day 27 Life-long Learning, Interpersonal (Listening Skills)

Being an Active Listener

Students will be given a handout of page 292 - 294 of Becoming a Master Student. As a class, we will read the article and highlight the important points of how to be an active listener. Discussion will take place on how we can be better listeners. Students will then write in their journals for 20 minutes on how they already model good listening skills, and how they can improve them.

Tips on being a good listener:
  1. Be quiet
  2. Maintain eye contact
  3. Display openness
  4. Send acknowledgments
  5. Listen beyond words
  6. Ask pertinent questions.
