Per cent of a Whole
Students will be given the following example on the white board.
20% of 500 is 100
They will then be given the formula:
per cent x the whole = the part
Students will then be instructed that given any two pieces of the equation, they can find the third piece.
Ex1. ____% of 500 = 100 100/500 = .2 = 20%
Ex 2. 20% of ____ = 100 100/.2 = 500
Ex 3. 20% of 500 = ____ .2 x 500 = 100
Students will use this information to complete the exercise on pages 309 and 310 of Adult Basic Education Mathematics 2, and the word problems on pages 313 and 314.
