Day 59 Numeracy (Proportion Word Problems)

Proportion: Applying your Skills

Students will be given a copy of page 76 & 77 of Number Power 3: The Real World of Adult Math and work on the problems individually. Emphasis will be on setting the questions up into a proportion before doing the work.

Example: Light green paint is made by mixing 8 parts of white paint to 3 parts of green. How many quarts of green are needed to mix with 24 quarts of white?

8/3 = 24/x
8x = 72
x=9

Nine quarts of green paint are needed to mix with the 24 quarts of white paint.

Students will then do questions 1 - 10.
